While the nominative case refers us to the subject, who is here the agent, of the action, passive participles relativize the patient of the action, not the agent. My fanciful take on this odd syntactical mixture is based on the imperative mood of the main verb. We are the agent as well as the one affected by the verb "to go". However, in terms of Jesus' command, we are the patient who receives his command while he is the agent. We are the ones who go, but only by his command. | |

But so can be, "be baptized" which is passive. I'm trying to understand how the passive voice fits in which he didn't really touch on. I feel like something is missing. | |
