Jun 18, 2016 at 16:42 comment added Tau @SimplyaChristian The same point still persists,"......Therefore, what G_D has joined together(indicating HIS One Flesh Covenant-the same that He gave to Adam and Eve before for the Fall), Let No Man Put Asunder." God did not 'join' Shechem and Dinah-he forced himself upon her, then decided he liked her "....How would you like to join my harem?" Those in Israel under the Law were compelled to take a woman they raped and make her their wife...and NOT Divorce her(Deut. 22:28-29)
Jun 17, 2016 at 17:01 comment added user862 @Tau: Don't be so sure about rape. When Shechem raped Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, Moses wrote, "...and his soul clave to Dinah..." (וַתִּדְבַּק נַפְשֹׁו בְּדִינָה). The Hebrew word נַפְשֹׁו could be understood as the person himself; thus, Shechem clave to Dinah (because of sexual intercourse).
Nov 14, 2015 at 10:35 comment added Tau (Finally) "One Flesh" does not mean sexual cohabitation with, although under God's Covenant, it rightfully includes that. Rape, for example, does not define 'one flesh', for it is clearly a violation of the will of one of the individuals(99.9% female). Nor does it for any other of the previous mentioned conditions, including prostitution, for such individuals or circumstances are disqualified from being 'one flesh'. That's why the condition "...a man shall leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife".
Nov 14, 2015 at 9:13 comment added Tau You are precisely correct, as it has to do with "One Flesh"(as God sees it, not as man sees it). A man can't 'one flesh' with a prostitute for more than a moment's time, because she has 'one fleshed' with many men-with whom would she be 'one flesh' with? This is why Paul says in vs 15, "God Forbid". Do not take an example to prove something opposite beyond it's intended meaning-Paul never said, "Now, let's go out and be 'one flesh' with prostitutes". The thought is absurd and disgusting, and it's for that very reason that Paul uses that analogy.
Nov 14, 2015 at 3:15 comment added Joseph @Tau - if I understand you correctly, sexual intercourse (with a prostitute for example) would not constitute becoming one flesh with her?
Nov 14, 2015 at 2:09 comment added Tau Context is the key to understanding the passage: in the previous verse(v 15) he says,"shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid".IOW-how can God bless such a thing? To 'join' yourself to the flesh of a harlot(or any of the previously mentioned circumstances) for that instant makes you '1 flesh' for that instant(I wouldn't want to attempt to define all that the imagination can conjure up). But that does NOT make you "One Flesh" in the eyes of God, and that's precisely Paul's point-"God Forbid".
Nov 14, 2015 at 1:35 comment added Joseph @Tau - What did the Apostle Paul mean then when he stated that Corinthian believers became one flesh with the local prostitutes (when having sex with them)? 1 Cor 6:16?
Nov 14, 2015 at 1:08 comment added Tau Therein I disagree. You may 'attempt' "One Flesh" with a prostitute, animal, member of the same sex, child, what have you, but that does not mean G_D says "You are One Flesh". Remember, G_D, not man, is the One who calls "One Flesh"(denoting His Favor, blessing, continuance). The offspring are certainly the "fruit" of that union; but we must never forget what Jesus says, "Therefore, what G_D has joined together, let no man put asunder.
Nov 8, 2015 at 5:12 comment added Joseph @Tau - the man and woman are "one flesh" because they derive vital life needs (pleasure, identity, value) due to the sexual union, which has the typical result in producing offspring, who are "one flesh" with their parents, by whom they derive vital life needs (pleasure, identity, value). For example, sex with a prostitute makes you "one flesh" with her because the bond occurs by one with whom you derive vital life needs (pleasure, identity, value) albeit shamefully. In other words, my posting explains the "why" behind the meaning of the divine pronouncement of "one flesh."
Nov 8, 2015 at 4:25 comment added Tau But what if their union doesn't produce children; does that mean they are not one flesh? They are "One Flesh" because of the Covenant Union from God who called them "One Flesh". Not all procreation is "One Flesh", and not all sexual activity is "One Flesh". "One Flesh" means God(not man) calls them that-and He establishes His Blessing on that union(not other 'unions' that men can conjure up).
Nov 7, 2015 at 4:48 comment added Joseph @Tau - the children are one flesh with the parents because the parents in logical order are one flesh first. The obvious conclusion here is that parents precede the children. Are we in violent agreement? :)
Nov 5, 2015 at 5:24 comment added Tau Again, He calls them "man(husband) and wife; this is in Gen. 2. And the "therefore" is also included in this passage. It goes beyond 'procreater and procreatee.

Nov 5, 2015 at 4:40 comment added Joseph @Tau - the first man and woman were one flesh in the sense that they sexually bonded and complemented one another for love and intimacy, which resulted in children. The mystery of the Christian New Testament uses both aspects of this one flesh image: that is, believers are first born again as children (sons of God) in order to become wedded to the body of Christ.

Update and tweaks
Nov 4, 2015 at 4:33 comment added Tau Yeah....but; I agree that the fruit of offspring is the consummation of the "One Flesh" Covenant. However, God calls them "One Flesh" before the offspring come, and the requirement of "leaving and cleaving" comes before "One Flesh". The "One Flesh" is the Mystery of Christ and the Church(Eph. 5:32). Mere 'offspring' doesn't rise to the level of explaining that mystery,
