About

Though I hold a Masters degree in Theological Studies I am a Secular Humanist today with a continuing interest in theology, Jesus and Early Christianity. I am interested in the relationship between culture and religion in society and the secular world in general. The focus of my Theological Studies was the history and beliefs of Christian fundamentalism in the United States and Canada. I realize that biblical hermeneutics, exegesis, and original languages are very important on this site, along with appropriate methodologies. These were all taught at the seminary, as were biblical criticism and textual analysis. However, I learned them only as good as I had to in order to pass; my interest in theology was from the perspective of anthropology and sociology. I wanted answers to questions such as "Why are there places in the United States where public schools teach creationism instead of science?" and "What happens to people who disagree with fundamentalist Christianity in North America?" My interest in biblical hermeneutics is the influence of the biblical text on human belief and behaviour. Battles are fought, empires split, and churches broken over what the Bible really says vs what people think it says.
