About

Just a cheerful Scottish juggler. I'm a developer by background but enjoy a wide range of interests and SE sites, across both social and technical subjects.

Most of my time on StackExchange is spent on the Biblical Hermeneutics site, as I love examining and teaching from the Bible. But these things are all secondary to being a husband, a dad, a lay preacher and an IT professional.

I grew up as an atheist, and bring a natural scepticism to everything I read and write - I'm a big fan of testing and checking everything to determine the answer closest to the truth, and in that I relate to Athanasius:

Error, indeed, is never set forth in its naked deformity, lest, being thus exposed, it should at once be detected. But it is craftily decked out in an attractive dress, so as, by its outward form, to make it appear to the inexperienced (ridiculous as the expression may seem ) more true than the truth itself.

Athanasius, 'Against heresies', ~300CE

On the other hand, to me this fact also underlines the necessity of a diversity of thought, and so I love Stack Exchange because it's an open, democratic platform where a variety of viewpoints are welcome and encouraged. I've changed my mind on far too many things in the past to be critical of other ways of thinking, and so I love to approach every question with fresh eyes and an open mind, and don't like to see anybody excluded or targeted because of their background or viewpoint, and I endeavour under all circumstances to welcome and include a diversity of voices:

"He drew a circle that shut me out - heretic, rebel, a thing to flout.

But love and I had the wit to win: We drew a circle and took him in."

Edwin Markham

As a Christian, these two principles are pretty central to me, and allow me to follow the example of Jesus every day.

Thanks for reading - be blessed today.
