The book of Lamentations is traditionally held to have been written by the prophet Jeremiah.

Lamentations, as the title suggests, is an expression of grief at the judgements that have befallen Judah because of iniquity. Jeremiah expresses sorrow for the losses of his people, but also expresses hope in the goodness and promises of the Lord.
