Questions about the land of Canaan and Canaanite culture and history. Canaan is the land between Syria in the north and Egypt in the south...and extending from the Mediterranean Sea in the west to the Jordon River on the east.

It was inhabited by several small tribes at the time of Abraham until the Conquest era under Joshua. They were not removed from this land while God gave Abraham the promise of possession "because their wickedness had not yet come to a full measure" when judgment would take place because of their gross wickedness.

Israel, as a nation, eventually occupied all this land under the reign of Solomon. And most of Israeli history then transpires there. In the New Testament, though, this land is better known as Judea, Samaria, Galilee (with Perea across the Jordon River added on.)
