Questions about the book of 1 Enoch or quotations of it in the Bible

1 Enoch, also sometimes referred to simply as the Book of Enoch, is a Jewish text that is quoted in the New Testament (e.g. Jude 14, 15).

The text is generally held to have been written in the last few centuries B.C. (not by the man in Genesis named Enoch) in Hebrew and/or Aramaic--portions of it are preserved in the Dead Sea Scrolls.

The book deals with a variety of subjects including apocalyptic material, fallen angels, and the flood. It is quoted by a number of patristic writers but was not accepted by the church as canonical.

The text was rediscovered in 1773 after having been lost for several centuries.
