2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV):

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

What is meant by "all Scripture"? What specific books or writings did Paul have in mind when he said "all Scripture"?

  • Given his use of non-canonical data, I was never under the impression that he was referring solely to canonical Old Testament scripture; given his (and the entire New Testament's) fondness of quoting the Greek Septuagint, even when the latter meaningfully differed from the Hebrew text, it would be safe to say he was not a slave to the letter of the Masoretic either.
