What is the “His glorious inheritance” mentioned in Ephesians 1:18?
Ephesians 1:18 "having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you
may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the
riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints."
A more correct translation of Ephesians 1:18 is that by the Complete Jewish Bible Bible which reads:
18 "I pray that he will give light to the eyes of your hearts, so that
you will understand the hope to which he has called you, what rich
glories there are in the inheritance he has promised his people."
The "Saints" are also referred to in the scriptures as "Chosen Ones", "Little Flock" (Luke 12:32),"Least brothers "( Matt.25:40 NET),"Israel of God" (Galatians 6:15-16). e.t.c.
The Apostle Peter wrote his epistles addressed to the" Chosen Ones" or "Saints" as referred to by Paul in Ephesians 1:18
Aramaic Bible in Plain English, (1 Peter 1:1)
"Petraus, an Apostle of Yeshua The Messiah, to The Chosen Ones and Pilgrims who are scattered in Pontus and in Galatia, in Qapadoqia, in Asia and in Bithynia."
New Living Translation (1 Peter 1:1)
"This letter is from Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to God’s chosen people who are living as foreigners in the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia."
In his first epistle Peter gives praise to God for the "glorious inheritance " granted to the chosen ones, an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for them.
1 Peter 1:3-6 (NET Bible)
Praise to God for a Living Hope Reserved in Heaven.
3" Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his
great mercy he gave us new birth into a living hope through the
resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 that is, into an
inheritance imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. It is reserved in
heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are protected through faith for a
salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 This brings you
great joy, although you may have to suffer for a short time in various
trials."
2 Peter 1:5-11 (NET Bible)
5 "For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith
excellence, to excellence, knowledge; 6 to knowledge, self-control; to
self-control, perseverance; to perseverance, godliness; 7 to
godliness, brotherly affection; to brotherly affection, unselfish
love. 8 For if these things are really yours and are continually
increasing, they will keep you from becoming ineffective and
unproductive in your pursuit of knowing our Lord Jesus Christ more
intimately."
9 "But concerning the one who lacks such things—he is blind. That is
to say, he is nearsighted, since he has forgotten about the cleansing
of his past sins. 10 Therefore, brothers and sisters, make every
effort to be sure of your calling and election. For by doing this you
will never stumble into sin. 11 For thus an entrance into the eternal
kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be richly provided
for you."
