Call oin the name of the Lord has 2 meanings:
the word is I appeal unto Caesar.>>
Now thats of course had nothing to do with which is and means that the name is called ypon us.
If i wear saying means nothing if i am not an American. Paul used the name of Caesar because was a Roman.
In order to take upon you the name of the Lord (means to believe in the sacrifice ,live wile him, being his etc.) then i have to be His.
Thats why we must being baptised in the name of Jesus Christ (not just repeat the titles Father,Son,Spirit) but actually invoke and call upon yourself the name of Christ.
Other passages to help you understand this are:
Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptised, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
thahts literally being named by his name. Or call the name upon you.Yes must be invoked but with the right faith. Neither just invocation neither an ,understanding> alone are enough. but i have to know him and then being named by his name.
*now because we know the verses that we are named by the name of Christ and we saw that the name is given by God. Take a look of to whom the name is and an other usage of the word epikaleo:
Acts.15:*17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, **upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.*
ἐπικέκληται (epikeklite) "called upon>
:) you see? We know that the phrase is used in the old testament for his temple and some times for his people.
But called on the Nations? how? :) that because we are now temple of God and all who are baptised in the name are named after him.
So we see now that the name which are called ypon us is the actual name of the Lord (no 2 lords)
*There is a secondary use oif that word. to help you understand the meaning. but thats the passive voice of the verb epikaleo which is and means that he changed his name so that others now call him :
15:22 *Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; [namely], Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren"**
avtually thats a sub category of the forst usage but seems you understand that litteraly means
12:12 And when he had considered [the thing], he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.
Again literaly read as And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; epikaloumenon Peter.
2)Acts.2:21 And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Like we saw the meaning and practice of the name called ypon as is baptism in his name and praying in/through his name.
One example is (we go to God in the name of His Son:
4:29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,
30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.
:) you see? Thats praying (literaly) calling God as Lord and praying for the preaching of the name Jesus his Son.
Now the second meaning or way to call ypon is ,to call God (the Lord) by His name ;)
Jesus said ,i came in my Fathers name>
and
and
< Father glorify your name> and then and Peter said ;) ok i dont go farther for its to deep for here..
then
Go and
Peter said to them
We know that the singular name of Jesus which God gave him and make him Lord is the only saving given name by heaven to earth through which we shalt be saved:
Philip.2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth;
11 And [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
:) we allready so the typical praying to God in the name of Jesus but now we see something more than Baptism or pray to God by faioth to his Son. Now we are to:
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord > and whatsoever ye do in word or deed, [do] all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
We are to pray TO God , TO the Lord but THROUGH the name of Jesus.
here you have one more example of the actual meaning of call upon the name (epikaleo)
ACTS 7:59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon [God], and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
:) SORRY FOR MY BAD English (YES i know i am very ba on English). But if you give a change you will see that the Spirit is the same regarding the language.
So we have
1)Call upon
1a) i go to God through faith in the work of his Son.
1b) i am named by his name, or His name is called upon me.(otherwise i dont have the right to call upon the name) and that means i am dead and buried with Christ through baptism in his name and resurrected in a new life through him by His Spirit.
Now i know and (grow in knowledge) of the Lord so that i call ypon his name. Thats praying to him by his name.
We dont call an other God, or a human biut we got o God in the revealed name tht was given to his Son in which
