As a result of walking in the Spirit, we progressively do those things less and less until they phase-out of our lives and we simply stop doing them for good. Sometimes, people stop immediately. It all comes down to God's individual calling for our lives and what we're meant to learn, how we are meant to learn it, based on His timing and will. If we try to keep the law without His Spirit, we will fail every, single, time. But when we walk in the Spirit, we may fail from time-to-time, but we won't walk away without some sort of blessing after we get up.

See The Ten Freedoms. I'm not saying it is how they should be interpreted, but it's interesting to see that they can.
