In the NIV translation of the Bible, under the heading "The Cost of Following Jesus," a disciple who wants to follow Jesus says,

... “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead” (Matthew 8:21-22).

What did Jesus mean when he said this?

From a Christian perspective, could it mean that this man who wants to bury his father is dead because he has not been "born again," i.e. he has not received a spiritual resurrection as he is dead in sin? If so, could this statement of Jesus be interpreted as pointing to the future judgement in Revelation 20:6 regarding the phrase "The second death has no power over them?"
