Mar 16, 2021 at 21:33 comment added Sola Gratia Every one who was saved after Christ, was saved because of Christ's sacrifice. God didn't have to wait for His sacrifice to know that He does sacrifice Himself, and so can put things 'on hold.' But He waited until the cross to actively bestow the positive gifts. The Bible talks about this, i.e.: "that they should not be perfected without us."
Mar 15, 2021 at 23:32 comment added Only True God Sorry, I don't understand what you're saying. Are you saying if Christ hadn't ransomed person x from sin and death, then they'd go to Gehenna? But some people who had died before Christ came along didn't go to Gehenna but went to Abraham's Bosom?
Mar 15, 2021 at 23:12 comment added Sola Gratia "But you're saying people weren't in Hell before Jesus' sacrifice" I didn't say that. Sheol is the abode of the dead. Sheol in Hebrew, Hades in Greek. Gehenna is where the damned go, and falls under Sheol, as does Abraham's Bosom. When the Creed says, 'he descended into hell' it means He went to Sheol, and preached to the righteous dead in Abraham's Bosom. Not the hell of the damned.
Mar 15, 2021 at 22:53 comment added Only True God I don't quite understand this. You said "In other words, you can't forgive if you are in hell, where you'd be if Christ hadn't ransomed you from sin and death." But you're saying people weren't in Hell before Jesus' sacrifice. Can you say a bit more about that?
Mar 15, 2021 at 22:46 comment added Sola Gratia Yes, and 'Abraham's bosom' was what Jesus called said place.
Mar 15, 2021 at 20:42 comment added Only True God So before Jesus' sacrifice, were there people in another part of Sheol as well? Did they go somewhere else after Jesus' sacrifice?
Mar 15, 2021 at 19:13 comment added Sola Gratia Gehenna is not Sheol, it is in Sheol.
Mar 15, 2021 at 17:29 comment added Only True God As clarification of this answer, would you hold that everyone who had died was in Gehenna before Jesus' sacrifice?
Mar 15, 2021 at 13:05 comment added Sola Gratia I mean Gehenna, hellfire, the abode of the damned.
Mar 15, 2021 at 5:18 comment added Only True God "you can't forgive if you are in hell" By hell do you mean Sheol (Hades)? Do you believe the righteous in Sheol were in Paradise before Jesus?
