This totally fits the second part of the verse and in no way contradicts it. In fact I believe it reads better that way, dying young is a form of being cut off. compare this to the OT's term ונכרתה, which has the same meaning. However it sounds ridiculous when you say, I will cut off thy strength. Strength is not something that can be cut off. And if you read it literally "hand", then the text only becomes more convoluted. | |
