Apr 14, 2019 at 13:07 comment added Ruminator This JSTOR article discusses the matter of the post-modern hermeneutic that challenges a biblical hermeneutic with relativistic ideas. I didn't read it all but if you want a relativistic epistemology this might be of interest: ibr-bbr.org/files/bbr/BBR-1992_10_Larkin_Hermeneutics90s.pdf
Apr 14, 2019 at 12:59 comment added Sola Gratia @Nacht I meant it in the special theory of relativity sense, as in a fixed observer can be viewed as the center if you so wish, with no 'buts' or 'excepts.' The sun revolves around the earth if God considers/made the earth the center of creation.
Apr 14, 2019 at 7:10 comment added B''H Bi'ezras -- Boruch Hashem @Autodidact also note the sun (and moon and other stars) stopping for Yehoshua for a full day, that doesn't make sense if the earth would be rotating on its axis and around the sun... also see sefaria.org/Berakhot.59b.1?lang=bi&with=Rashi&lang2=en
Apr 14, 2019 at 6:52 comment added B''H Bi'ezras -- Boruch Hashem @Autodidact Rashis "And it is like a bridegroom emerging from his chamber: every morning. This is what is meant by “The heavens recite the glory of God.”", "and its circuit is to their ends: The circuit of its orbit is from one end to the other." and to verse 3" Day to day utters speech: The Creation is renewed from day to day. In the evening, the sun sets, and in the morning it rises. Thereby, the people utter sayings of praise throughout these days and nights, for they teach the people to praise and to give thanks. (Menachem interprets [the word] יביע as an expression of a gushing fountain."

Apr 14, 2019 at 6:49 comment added B''H Bi'ezras -- Boruch Hashem @Autodidact Look at Psalms (Tehillim), chapter 19, verses 5-7 (and that chapter in general): "5Their line goes forth throughout the earth, and their words are at the end of the world; for the sun He made a tent therein. הבְּכָל־הָאָ֨רֶץ | יָצָ֚א קַוָּ֗ם וּבִקְצֵ֣ה תֵ֖בֵל מִלֵּיהֶ֑ם לַ֜שֶּׁ֗מֶשׁ שָׂ֤ם | אֹ֥הֶל בָּהֶֽם: 6 And it is like a bridegroom emerging from his chamber; it rejoices like a mighty man running a course." look at Rashi there, also see chabad.org/therebbe/letters/default_cdo/aid/2046989/jewish/…
Apr 14, 2019 at 6:31 comment added Nihil Sine Deo @bluejayke please quote the verse, thank you.
Apr 14, 2019 at 5:57 comment added B''H Bi'ezras -- Boruch Hashem actually according to the torah the sun goes around the earth
Apr 14, 2019 at 4:45 comment added Nacht @SolaGratia That's not really the correct usage of the scientific word "relativity", as in Einstein's relativity. That's really just the English word. Einstein's relativity does not conclude that the sun revolves around the earth.

Apr 13, 2019 at 22:08 comment added Ruminator And up is down, down is up? By the way, when you mess with relativity you also mess with time (a day is a rotation, etc).
Apr 13, 2019 at 21:51 comment added Sola Gratia Even in science, relativity alone supports the truth that the sun rises from our perspective. In fact, relativity even allows us to be the 'center' of the universe, i.e. that the sun rotates around the earth. Boom.
Apr 13, 2019 at 21:46 comment added Ruminator I think that may be called "phenomenally" as in "as things appear". IE: while not scientifically accurate the words describe things "as they would have appeared to the ancients" or something to that effect. Or I may have dreamed that up, dunno!
