Why did Elisha rebuke Gehazi for things he did not accept from Naaman? Elisha starts with what was actually on offer (to him or Gehazi) and then goes on, and on, and on. He's angry. |

How can the sacrifice of one animal atone for many? I don't think that "The life of the animal was a substitute for the life of the sinner." is a fair reading of the plain meaning. If you pay a traffic ticket, the money you pay is not a substitute for your life. There's no implication in the text that these sins were serious enough that there is an economy of life involved. |

Does Genesis contain a “death sandwich”? I don't see how to engage with this question without precise methodological details of what they claim for Hebrew. Just what Hebrew word(s) are they translating as 'life'? It's a matter of argument; 'breath' ? 'life' ? What you see in KJB tells you, at most, about the men who did it. |

Was Abimelech's mother an Israelite? Youch, that's a question I can't attack from a conference in Portland. I'll try to dredge this off a shelf next week when I'm home. |

Where did that camel come from? Note: there's a reason to ask this question today -- it's traditional to have some fun with torah on Purim. Please answer in that spirit. |

How would Elisha plowing with 12 oxen have been understood at the time of writing? That he came from a wealthy family with a whole lot of oxen? |

A word for the fallacy of assuming whatever brings God the most glory is the correct interpretation a text? I don't see how it could be theodicy. |

What is the judgment in Psalm 1? I'm on vacation operating from memory, but I seem to recall a population of occurrences of that phrase in Psalms. For what it's worth, I think you're unlikely to find much evidence of a 'final judgement' in Psalms anywhere; some Psalms have an expectation of justice in the near term, other's complain of its absence, but I don't think that any look to the eschaton. |

What is the judgment in Psalm 1? And you might find it interesting to do the concordance thing on kahal hasidim (assembly of the righteous), the other usages might shed some illumination. |

What is the judgment in Psalm 1? What do you mean be 'can we know'? Are you asking about textual evidence, or about doctrinal interpretation? Just trying to figure out if I have anything to offer. |
