I am a software dude living in Dallas. I've been doing that for about either years now. Fun times.
Prior to this I attended school to receive a Master of Theology. Of course that doesn't mean I know what I'm talking about :) That was mostly fun but I needed a break from school after that, so I got a "real job".
My primary interest is Greek as well as the study of early Christianity. I attend and teach at FBC Parker, TX.
I blog on stuff related to Early Christianity here, if you are interested: http://www.archaicchristianity.com/blog

Was Jesus anointed once or twice on the feet with perfume? From what I've read, Mary was a very common name at the time. |

Does baptizing come after discipling in Matthew 28:19? It does look that way :) |

Does baptizing come after discipling in Matthew 28:19? Even as someone who is not a fan of the practice of infant baptism, whoever made this original argument clearly knows just enough Greek to be dangerous. +1 for a good response. |

Does Galatians 6:9 contain a causality that could imply works salvation? And many agree with you. But I would still recommend a reading of the book. Even if you don't end up agreeing with this other perspective, perhaps it will still benefit you. Of course the whole question of this new perspective would be a fun one to discuss on the site but the format doesn't really fit it well. Q&A is not discussion board. Oh well. |

How Do We Know Paul's Opponents in Galatians Profess to be Followers of Jesus? if he were directly addressing the opponents, then I would entirely agree. But as I read the letter it seems more of an address to those stuck in the middle of the debate. |

How Do We Know Paul's Opponents in Galatians Profess to be Followers of Jesus? Re: 1:6-7, I'll say it a different way. The message and term "gospel" was very important to Paul. If some Jews, among whom most (all?) would have said that Torah-obedience was necessary for righteousness before God and were attempting to convert these Gentiles into Judaism, attacking this Christian schismatic group, I can totally see Paul responding with his own terms, the ones he would have used when he preached to the Galatians. |

How Do We Know Paul's Opponents in Galatians Profess to be Followers of Jesus? Re: 1:6-7 -- The term gospel has OT roots, so could have been used by regular Jews as well technically, but in this case it isn't actually required that the opponents were using that term. They could have just been trying to tell them to go a different way. But of your ideas, I think this one may have merit. Re: 1:8-2:14 -- He wasn't trying to convince his opponents at this point. He was trying to convince the Galatians, which would have considered the apostles' opinions. Re: 2:15-21 -- once again, he's not appealing to his opponents. Re: 5:2 -- same problem Re: 6:15 -- same problem |

What is the significance of 153 fish? I would strongly recommend getting Richard Bauckham's "The Testimony of the Beloved Disciple" and reading the last chapter, "The 153 Fish and the Unity of the Fourth Gospel." The other chapters are great too but this last one would give you much food for thought. It did for me, anyway. |
