comment Should John 1:18 read “the only begotten God”?
Hi Radz - you somehow ended up with two unregistered accounts here - I've merged them but I'd like to encourage you to register so this sort of thing doesn't happen :)

comment What did it mean to “rise before the aged” in ancient Hebrew culture?
+1 Reducing ambiguity like this is perhaps one of the purposes of parallelism - it certainly helps understand the meaning.

comment Who is “I” in Psalm 4
@Monica that also raises the question in my mind of separate authorship of the psalm and the note at the top, which I hadn't considered!

comment Could ἀρχαὶ in Romans 8:38 be 'the past' rather than 'ruler' or similar
+1 and many thanks. 2 comments: 1) a sample size of 2 is not very large - leaving more doubt than if the word were widely used, and 2) You say "It is a plural noun, which immediately restricts the possible meanings.", without specifically saying that it could not be "beginnings" because it is plural - does it prevent that translation? iiuc, it is worth noting that ἐνεστῶτα and μέλλοντα are both plural too.

comment 1 Pet 3:3 (NASB) “Your adornment must not be *merely* external”
to be clear: I meant worth pointing out to others looking at your question, not to you :-)

comment 1 Pet 3:3 (NASB) “Your adornment must not be *merely* external”
+1 good question - but it's worth pointing out the the italics are in the NASB and are not your addition - "ITALICS are used in the text to indicate words which are not found in the original Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek but implied by it."
