Should John 1:19 read “the only begotten God”? Hi Radz - you somehow ended up with two unregistered accounts here - I've merged them but I'd like to encourage you to register so this sort of thing doesn't happen :) |

What is “Midrash” and how does it relate to Christian principles of hermeneutics? @Bob thanks for the link. Unlike the stones I think it is a bit above my head ;-) |

What did it mean to “rise before the aged” in ancient Hebrew culture? +1 Reducing ambiguity like this is perhaps one of the purposes of parallelism - it certainly helps understand the meaning. |

Who is “I” in Psalm 4 @Monica that also raises the question in my mind of separate authorship of the psalm and the note at the top, which I hadn't considered! |

“First day of the week” or “one of the Sabbaths”? Great - can we talk in the chat room about my very rough suggested changes (link in my last comment)? |

“First day of the week” or “one of the Sabbaths”? This question falls the wrong side of the line to be on-topic on BH in my view - it starts with an article rather than starting from a Bible text. I'd be delighted to discuss this with you in The Library and equally happy to help you refocus the question to be on-topic if you are happy to do that :-) |

Could ἀρχαὶ in Romans 8:38 be 'the past' rather than 'ruler' or similar +1 and many thanks. 2 comments: 1) a sample size of 2 is not very large - leaving more doubt than if the word were widely used, and 2) You say "It is a plural noun, which immediately restricts the possible meanings.", without specifically saying that it could not be "beginnings" because it is plural - does it prevent that translation? iiuc, it is worth noting that ἐνεστῶτα and μέλλοντα are both plural too. |
