What sort of creature swallowed Jonah? Colin's and @H3br3wHamm3r81's comment above are about all that can be said without everyone saying their personal opinion—as such the question isn't constructive enough to be left open I'm afraid. Don't let that put you off asking more questions here, but please lean towards those that can be answered with reason or analysis and interpretation of the text itself rather than those that are purely subjective. |

Matthew 11:25: What question is Jesus answering here? +1 this is a really good answer, thanks for contributing and a very warm welcome to bh.se. |

What does the living sacrifice mean in Romans 12:1? Hi Lisa, welcome to bh.se and thanks for your contribution here :) I find your answer interesting but a little difficult to read, probably because it's all one paragraph—are you willing to spend a bit of time spacing it out and fixing one or two typos? If so please reply here when you are done and I'll come back and delete this comment. You might find it a help to have a look at this link about all the ways to format text here. Thanks! |

Who is the prophetess in Isaiah 8:3? @Stephen though you'd have to know Hebrew idiom to know whether it would be impersonal or not. Perhaps it is a question of emphasis: by using this title Isaiah is emphasising her role rather than her relationship to himself, for narrative effect? |

Why does Matthew double people? Hi justin, interesting point but can you elaborate on why Matthew would need to be more specific writing to Jews? Also, what does 'b/c' mean? |

Who is the prophetess in Isaiah 8:3? @Kate, would you be willing to chat about this? Jon's intention is not to drive folk away and fwiw I don't agree with his assessment here: you have posed your answer in a form that contains questions but to me it reads like an answer and raises interesting points. |

Differences in Genesis creation stories "When I read it again is sounds like I'm more after promoting my view then asking a question." I think the question might be better for the site if you rephrase as just a question, and provide your own views as an answer—if you are willing to put the effort into doing that it will also make it easier for others to post their views as answers. |

In what sense would Nathanael have “seen” in John 1:51? For me, this answers the question—it does so in terms of 'whole Bible' theology, and I think the assumption is that Jesus is saying something about the whole of redemption history to Nathaniel rather than something more temporal. This makes sense to me because Jesus's identity is being established. If true, it might be helpful to explain this at the beginning of the answer—comments are often unread or temporary. Many thanks for your contribution Footwasher, I hope you have time for more of the same :) |

Ecclesiastes 11:1-2 Puzzlement @BlessedGeek that is a discussion too big for one question/answer/user. Please contribute on meta to make your views on this known. It is a tricky issue for the site, but as things stand, we are not discouraging answers from a Christian (or any other) perspective on the site. If they don't interest you you can ignore them of course. |

Who was Moses supposed to say sent him, “Ehieh” or “Yahweh” @Ron, Fraser, you are right, this isn't the best place to discuss JEDP—either the site chat room or a specific question on the topic would be much better! Fraser I do hope you register and continue to contribute, we value your input on the site. |

Who was Moses supposed to say sent him, “Ehieh” or “Yahweh” I'm one of the down-voters, and 'changing your mind' didn't enter into it for me. Please read the post notice if you want to know what did. If you provide a well argued/explained answer I'll remove my downvote and consider voting up even if I disagree with your conclusion. One-line opinion answers don't really add any value to the site and down-votes serve the very useful purpose of pushing them down the page. |

Is Malachi a pseudonym? I think it makes a difference if the original reader would have known either way: when you write 'Dear Diary' today it is understood that 'Diary' isn't the name of a person, but it isn't a pseudonym either at least not in the sense I understand the word (which could be completely wrong of course). Incidentally I've often wondered the same thing about Theophilus. |
