Thank you--that's a very interesting sidelight on this passage that I was totally unaware of.

comment Where did James get the idea that breaking one commandment means breaking all?
Not an answer but I read this verse as more implying that no one is capable of keeping the whole law--hence all need God's grace and forgiveness.

comment Should The Creation Story in Genesis Be Understood as Metaphorical?
I'm going to see if I can close this question. Honestly I'd forgotten I'd asked it until recently and I can see that while I hoped for scholarly discussion of the subject it also elicits a lot of religious feeling too.

I didn't ask if the account is literally the truth or not. I asked about evidence of authorial intent.

comment Why is “maranatha” in 1 Cor 16:22?
This is absolutely fascinating. I'm sure it's old hat to professionals in the field of Biblical scholarship but to an interested amateur like me this is a fascinating discussion.

@JonathanChell Excellent point but I was under the impression (perhaps mistaken) that the general consensus of scholars is that there was a Q document at some point in history.

I seem to recall the theory being put forth in "The Five Gospels" but my memory may be flawed.
