Originally I had put tanakh because I was interested primarily in Jewish thought on this; but then I saw another question tagged with both and figured I would add old-testament too because I would be interested in a Christian perspective as well if the theme is picked up in the NT at all.

@BobJones - I removed the Noah analogy (which I don't think is being used as prophecy in the Matthew 24 text even if the narrative as a whole does anticipate the cross), and I added Stephen's speech in Acts 7 as well as a very basic use of a command.

I'm not assuming it; I'm arguing that the pattern in Matthew (and all the synoptics) is that of Jesus and his wedding guests. Moreover, the practice of polygyny even if common (which I would dispute) does not determine anything about wedding practices.
