comment Jewish interpretation of Genesis 1:26?
Jas, thanks -- just wanted to make sure you were asking about the plural (and not something about "likeness" that I was missing) before I answered. (Whoops, I see now that you bolded those words, which I missed when viewing in my other browser.)

I assume your question is about the use of the word "our"?

@NiclasNilsson, I wasn't criticizing, just augmenting. I figured you knew that Sunday = first day but might not know about the naming.

The three festivals (Pesach, Shavuot, and Sukkot, aka Passover, Weeks, and Tabernacles) are of equal importance.

Thanks for the clarification.

You can just ask a new question about Lilith (start by copying the text from here, though you might want to expand it) and then delete the Lilith part of this question. It's a good idea to comment on the existing answers to let people know about the change, since otherwise a future reader will see answers about something not in the question and wonder what's going on.

Do you have a talmudic-era source for a human Lilith?

You might want to separate out the Lilith question, rather than combining two questions in one here.

comment “the first day of the week” in 1 Corinthians 16:2
In fact, in the Jewish calendar the days aren't called Sunday, Monday, etc, but yom rishon (first day, = Sunday), yom sheini, etc. I don't know the Christian testament well nor Greek at all, so I don't know if this text derives from "yom rishon", but it sure sounds like it does.

comment Why was there a Sabbath year?
It is observed today in Israel only. But letting the land go fallow doesn't mean you can't farm (which would be a hardship). Answer: hydroponics, which isn't "the land". (It will be several days before I can write a proper answer.)

@FrankLuke, oh sorry - that's not visible to other people? Odd. cellio@pobox.com.

@FrankLuke, thanks! My email address is in my profile. I'm going to be offline for a little while, so there'll be a delay in further replies.

comment Was the angel of the Lord the pre-human appearance of Messiah?
Do the commentaries that suggest this offer any explanation about why they think that? (I haven't heard this idea before and a plain reading of the text doesn't suggest it to me, but there are vast swaths of hermeneutic theory I haven't encountered so I'd like to know more.)
