What is “sin that leads to death” in 1 John 5:16? Not all sins that are identified in the bible carry the death penalty; some call for restitution (plus extra), for instance. The latter are not necessarily "instinct"; for example, theft (not accidental taking, but willful). |

Admah and Zeboiim in Hosea 11:8 עָדָה ('Adah, Lemech's wife) is not even close to the same word as אָדָם (Adam). They have one letter in common. And if you say that alef and 'ayin are homophones and final hei is silent so it doesn't count, well, not all speakers would agree, nor many (if any) Hebrew scholars. |

How do Jewish scholars differ from Christian scholars in their approach to the Tanakh? I found this very enlightening, thanks. And while some of your examples might be flip, I've heard most of those forms from the Christians I've encountered. So I'll leave that community to comment on typicality and applicability, but this sounds consistent to me. |

Who are the Sheep and the Goats in Matthew 25? You've restated what's in the text, but who are the sheep and the goats (BTW do we know that sheep = good and goats = bad?) and who are the "least"? |

Can John's Passion chronology be reconciled with that of the Synoptics? Israel left Egypt on the same night that the angel passed over them; this chart shows them sitting in Egypt for an extra day. (If they had an extra day, then there would have been time for their dough to rise...) Also, you seem to be saying that Jesus was crucified on one day and his body was broken a day later; is that what you meant? I thought it was cross -> tomb (in a few hours) and then nothing until Sunday morning? |

What does Azazel mean in Leviticus 16:8? Good question. Strong's gives a speculative derivation (not that one) but doesn't show his work. (I assume you've seen that?) |

Does the Bible mention unicorns? 1. 07213 is a verb not a participle). It therefore does not fit in context. 07214 is the word in question ("unicorn", or something else). If you say otherwise, please bring a source. 2. Are you seriously suggesting that people read/recited/studied the Hebrew bible for centuries but "didn't know" what it meant? 3. I don't see how your unsupported "gopher" comment fits into this answer. You haven't said that anything here translates as "gopher", so playing games with that word doesn't seem to help. |

Why does Matthew include these women in Jesus' genealogy? Interesting; I was expecting the opposite, that these women were particularly meritorious. Tamar took matters into her own hands when Yehudah failed in his obligation; Rachav saw the truth of Israel's God and supported them against her own people; Ruth left her homeland to avoid abandoning her mother-in-law. That leaves Batsheva; it's not a perfect interpretation. :-) |

How would stoning of an adulterer actually be carried out under the Law of Moses? @TimGallant, I added a paragraph to the end of my answer. As I suspected, information about the different execution methods comes from oral tradition, which obviously can't be proven. I'm not aware of relevant historical records; if you are, I encourage you to add an answer. |
