linked to other question; massaged style a bit; highlighted question at end; added new tag; removed some doctrine since we're text-focused

comment Interpretations of Elihu in Job
@MVS, first off, "scriptural authority" is a tricky case on a site that doesn't presume a doctrine. For example, I don't consider anything in the Christian books to be authoritative because I am not a Christian. But even with a presumption of scriptural authority, I commented because I don't understand the connection you're trying to make to 1 Cor, hence my request for you to elaborate. How do you get from that text to what you said about Elihu? It's not like the later passage says anything about Elihu or Job; you're drawing an inference, so please spell it out.

Hi Tony. We're looking for longer answers that show their work (and aren't so much concerned with personal opinions or practice). Can you expand on this to show what in the passages you cited leads you to your conclusion? Thank you.

Oh, I didn't consider that the question might be asking about the name of the goat itself (rather than a place).

comment In John 18, who was high priest at the time of Jesus' arrest?
Wow, fascinating. Does Carson say how we know about Gratus deposing Annas? (Now I wonder which of them did the Yom Kippur liturgy, done by the high priest, if there were two... not this question, but your answer makes me wonder.)

comment Why does Numbers 29:39 (LXX) refer to “your salvation” instead of “peace offerings”?
בְּרִית is the core of the relationship, laid out in torah, between God and Israel, yes. I just wondered that you were instead using שָׁלוֹם for the covenant idea. (Either way, there are oaths too.) I'm not trying to criticize; it just struck me as an unusual connection, given an alternative, so I'm trying to understand. Thanks.

The word בְּרִית more clearly means covenant; שָׁלוֹם means wholeness or peace, but it's more about completeness than absence of hostilities. (Consider that Pinchas gets a covenant of shalem after killing Zimri.) You might want to do a search on בְּרִית (or its Greek translation, whatever that is) to see how that affects this analysis.
