What are the similarities and differences between the Genesis creation account and other creation stories of the time I'm not saying every age listed has to do with solar year. I don't think they chose big numbers at random. The ages are actually another similarity/difference with Enuma Elish; I think the kings listed in there "reigned for 10000 years" and such. |

Was Moses the probable author of Genesis? Well I don't go in for the whole documentary hypothesis thing, so I don't know how far we can get in these little comments. I don't think the whole Pentateuch is exilic, just Genesis. Exodus is early, written around the time the Saul, David, Solomon succession stories were (Pharaoh sure does look a lot like Solomon...). One good bit of evidence for later Genesis is there's no mention of "Eden" in any of the older books. |
